OH ARCHITECTURE presents OH 14 - Adéle Naudé Santos and Antonio de Souza Santos Monograph. Between 1968 and 1973 A + A Naudé de Souza Santos designed a set of six highly accomplished buildings in Cape Town before pursuing successful careers in the United States. These modernist jewels are hidden within the upper middle class residential suburbs of Newlands, Kenilworth, and Simonstown, each displaying a powerful connection with Table Mountain. Because of the architects' sensitivity to contextual concerns such as climate and site, the houses and apartment blocks hover ambivalently between a strict adherence to the stylistic dogmas of the Modern Movement and a determination to depart from the rules.
Both Adéle Naudé Santos and Antonio de Souza Santos will be at the OH, giving visitors a rare opportunity to interact with them and ask them questions.
